Top Daily Telegraph football writer and FourFourTwo columnist Henry Winter answers Jerome Butcher’s topical questions about the beautiful game.

TSR: Do you think ‘goal-line’ video technology should be introduced to football, just as technology has been introduced to other sports such as tennis, rugby and cricket?

HW: Goal-line technology should be introduced, as Malouda’s ‘goal’ at Wembley confirmed. But general television umpiring shouldn’t, as it would destroy the flow of the game and would also allow TV companies to introduce advertisements.

TSR: What are your thoughts on Celtic and Rangers joining the Premier League? A good idea, or the death of the Scottish Premier League?

HW: Celtic and Rangers joining English Premier League will never happen. The police wouldn’t allow it and the Premier League wouldn’t allow it either.

TSR: Who do you think is most likely to replace Sir Alex Ferguson as the next manager of Manchester United?

HW: David Moyes, Martin O’Neill or Jose Mourinho are the most likely candidates for the job.

TSR: Do you think that Arsene Wenger has underperformed this season, given his resources and current squad?

HW: Wenger has underperformed by his high standards. He should have brought in a defender and a holding midfielder last summer, as everybody suggested. But in a recession, he should be praised for trying to balance Arsenal’s books. The patience may wear thin if Arsenal have another trophy-less season. But remember he could walk into a job at any club in the world.

TSR: Finally, who did you vote for in the Football Writer’s Footballer of the year award?

HW: I voted for Ryan Giggs because I felt the winner should come with club trophies and be an ambassador.
