Cristiano Ronaldo has been officially unveiled as Real Madrid’s new number nine as over 80,000 Real Madrid fans packed out the Bernabeu to welcome their new recruit.

There were astonishing scenes at the Madrid club’s stadium, where full capacity was reached after fans queued from the early hours of the morning to gain entrance to the ceremony free of charge.

The 24-year-old was introduced to the crowd by new Real Madrid president Florentino Perez after fans were given a taster of what to expect from the winger on the big screens. Portuguese footballing legend Eusébio also made an appearance on the temporary stage.

Perez introduced Ronaldo to a rapturous reception from the Madrid faithful. “Real Madrid welcomes one of those chosen players capable of generating pride and passion,” said the president. “Cristiano, welcome to your Real Madrid.”

A thrilled-looking Ronaldo addressed the crowd shortly after. “I am just so happy to be here. I have made my childhood dream a reality, which was to play for Real Madrid.”

“I didn’t expect a jam-packed stadium, so thank you.”

The Portuguese winger, who cost Real Madrid a record-shattering £80 million, passed a medical in the Spanish capital earlier today as his move from Manchester United was made official.

Ronaldo will say his goodbyes to his United team mates and staff over the following weeks when he travels back to Manchester.
