Manchester City linked with Messi swoop

Lionel Messi linked to Manchester City

According to reports in Spanish newspaper Marca, Manchester City are once again chasing the signature of Barcelona star Lionel Messi.

The 22-year-old Argentina winger is understood to be in talks with with Barca over a new deal at the Camp Nou, but City have not given up in their chase of the player.

Despite not making a formal offer, Marca have reported that they understand Manchester City officials have approached Messi’s agent to declare their interest and are willing to let the player ‘name his price’ for his services.

Messi previously turned down an approach from City during the January transfer, when the Club offered Barcelona €150 million for the star and the player €12 million per year.

Most would expect the Barca star to turn down City’s second approach, however should the Manchester club secure a top-four finish in the Premier League this season, with the prospect of Champions League football and seemingly unlimited resources, the club’s offers may become too good to turn down.

I am a City fan but can’t honestly see us making Champions league this year even with the money the club has spent but obviously would I love it to happen. If City did make Champions League would they need to buy Messi for £150M plus pay him a massive wage? He is absolute quality (probably the best at the moment) and would be that next level of player but there are others and I know it’s City but we are over paying at the moment because we aren’t in the Champions League. Then again City have paid over the odds on most players so far, why stop now!
