Emmanuel Adebayor has said he is ‘sorry’ for his goal celebration during Manchester City’s 4-2 win over Arsenal at the City of Manchester Stadium.

The Togo striker nodded home the goal that effectively sealed the three points for City, and set off at full pace to the other end of the pitch to celebrate in front of Arsenal’s travelling supporters.

The 25-year-old told Sky Sports after the match that his focus was purely to score and that he will learn from his ‘mistake’.

“The emotions took over me, the frustration is out of me,” said the striker. “I’m very sorry for what I have done, but as a player you just focus on scoring.”

“We are all human beings, we have to make a mistake to be better tomorrow.”

He went on to emphasise the importance of today’s result.

“I’m very delighted. We all knew how important this game was for myself and for Kolo [Toure].

“We showed good character today, it was a tough game but what we fight for is to take the three points

“At the end of the day it is the three points which is important and we took that.”

I assume he is sorry for deliberately kick/step on RvP face as well… hopeless guy!!!

Adebayor is a shameless human being. First he calls Arsenal fans “fake” and then he practically kicks every arsenal player in the field , if thats not enough he then insults the arsenal fans. This guy is a shame to Africa.

Van Persie made a two footed lunging tackle on Adebayor which warranted a straight red card. Adebayor simply landed badly and caught RVP in the face. But I’ll assume the Arsenal fans whingeing about this incident will take a leaf out of the moaning professor’s book and say they “Didn’t see it”.

We beat you, deal with it.

Fantastic performance from Adebayor. Always a threat to Arsenal and overcome when he scored. No need for the goal celebration to be honest. I seem to remember him getting a bit of a kicking from some Arsenal players but its a physical game lads. I hope he continues this fantastic form but I dare say you will have a different opinion.

why are Arsenal fans & the media whinging about Adebayo’s celebrations, werent you taunting him the whole match anyway, he deserves his goal and should be allowed to taunt you back, what comes around surely goes around

He had to leave Arsenal because everyone hated him

Adebayor is a disgrace. Arsenal fans rightly taunted and jeered him. He gave them 1 good season, 1 mediocre and then ran like the mercenary he is.

To run 100 yards to taunt the away fans was reprehensible but as stayed on the pitch and did not remove his shirt hie yellow card was harsh. However, he should be hauled in over his stamps. RvP is luckly Adebayor’s boot contected with his cheek and not his eye.

FA should ban him for 3 games for violent conduct!
