Guardiola finally cleared in Serie A doping case

Guardiola played for both AS Roma and Brescia

Barcelona boss Pep Guardiola has been finally cleared in a doping case that saw the Spaniard serve a four-month ban during his playing days at Brescia.

The former Barcelona captain tested positive for the steroid nandrolone while playing in Serie A, but in May the Italian soccer federation finally upheld his appeal.

The Italian National Olympic Committee challenged the ruling, but a tribunal has now ruled in Guardiola’s favour.

“The issue has been put to bed and that’s that. The good thing is that it’s over and we can look forward,” Guardiola told the media at a news conference following his side’s 2-0 win over Dynamo Kiev on Tuesday night.

Guardiola moved to Italy and Serie A aged 31, leaving Barcelona after 11 years of service at the Camp Nou.

He played for both Brescia and Roma before retiring in 2006.
