Sampdoria flying high as Mourinho sees red

Napoli 0 – 0 Udinese

The weekend kicked off early on Saturday evening at the San Paolo with a stalemate between Napoli and Udinese. The main talking point of the game was the bizarre disallowing of a goal from Antonio Di Natale in the first half. The assistant clearly put his flag up to signal offside but it was unclear who the offending player was and as Di Natale celebrated, his joy quickly turned to despair as the hosts were let off the hook. The game never really caught fire and a goalless draw was probably the right result.

Juventus 2 – 0 Livorno

The Bianconeri eased to all three points late on Saturday night, goals from Vicenzo Iaquinta and Claudio Marchisio heaped more pressure on Livorno’s Gennaro Ruotolo as his side still search for their first win of the season and their first goal in over three hours of football.

Sampdoria 4 – 1 Siena

Luigi Del Neri’s side sit proudly on top of the Serie A table with this destruction of Siena at the Luigi Ferraris. Antonio Cassano was inspirational and goals from Angelo Palombo, Daniele Mannini and a brace from Marco Pandalino ensured the Bluerchiati kept their 100% winning start. Michele Fini scored the Robur’s consolation.

Cagliari 1 – 2 Inter Milan

A fiery encounter in Sardinia saw the hosts take the lead on 16 minutes thanks to a penalty from Jeda. In the second half, a brilliant brace from Diego Milito turned the game on its head but it came at a cost for the champions. Midfield dynamo Thiago Motta picked up an injury that will keep him sidelined for at least a month and Coach Jose Mourinho was sent off towards the end of the game and will watch Wednesday’s clash with Napoli from the stands.

Chievo 3 – 1 Genoa

A massive surprise in Verona as the Flying Donkeys pulled off the weekend’s stand out result. The hosts were two up inside the first seven minutes thanks to a Michele Marcolini penalty and a goal from Erjon Bogdani. On 65 minutes, a Sergio Floccari penalty halved the arrears but just 11 minutes later the game was wrapped up when Sergio Pellissier got Chievo’s third.
