FOOTBALL: Fabio Capello resigns as England manager after holding talks with FA officials at Wembley

Wayne Rooney or Fernando Torres?

By Online Editorial

In The Sport Review’s latest football poll, we want your answers to a very simple question: Wayne Rooney or Fernando Torres?

Which of the two forwards would you prefer to have in your team?

Both have enjoyed impressive starts to their Premier League campaigns, with Rooney adding to his goal tally at White Hart Lane to bring his total to five.

And Liverpool number nine Fernando Torres has bagged three goals so far this term.

Regardless of the team you support, which player would you prefer to have at your club?

Fernando Torres is a wonderful striker but not as devoted and committed like Rooney.

Torres is a very deadly striker however Rooney’s passion and dedication to the game makes him my preferable choice.

Nando all day long! Rooney is a fat, chain-smoking, intimidating, would be bully-boy. Let him go to another country and get away with what he gets away with here.

He once wore a t-shirt pro-claiming ‘Once a Blue ALWAYS a Blue’ so much for his ‘Passion’ and ‘Dedication’!

Once a Blue, always a Manc, just like Joleon Lescott.

Torres has been subject of big money bids ever since he arrived at Anfield, but like the man said in the summer, football is not all about how much money you can make, that’s passion and commitment enough for me.

El Nino, you are the pride of the red half of Merseyside!

Rooney brings so much more to the game than Torres.
He is almost a hybrid of a midfielder and striker. He tracks back, and as his goal against Spurs showed, he never gives up on any ball. He is more of a complete player than Torres

Rooney has a more attractive game and is more technically gifted (passing, first touch), but Torres is like C.Ronaldo in that he is supremely effective in combining physique, pace, finishing and intelligence. For winning games Torres is your man, Rooney entertains more.

If this poll was done a season ago, I wouldn’t hesitate to choose Torres… But the current Rooney was simply dazzling and breathtaking… I just hope he can hold on to his current form.

I pick Rooney…. Torres is a great instinctive striker who gives more constant threat to the goal than Rooney, his finish is also ahead of Rooney by a mile… But for me, Rooney’s vision, passing ability, influence he exerted in the game, as well his tactical awareness (this one also belong to Torres) brings something extra to the team…. oh, and don’t forget his energy, stamina, work-rate and searing pace…

torres, drogba, benzema are all alike.. they a deadly strikers, n can b very dangerous in the penalty box area..
rooney, is a machine that never ever stops..he will be upfront, the next minute he’ll be in in the midfield area..
he’s work rate in the pitch is simply superb n torres will never be able to do that. rooney is a natural born finisher too..
so,i would love to have rooney in my team, and he is untouchable.

when it comes to work rate, they are similar. when it comes to dribbling, attitude, hair and looks! nando is the man!

Torres is a fantastic striker. Absolutely world class. He’s a much more potent goal-threat than Rooney, due to the special combination of his smart movement, acceleration, close control and accuracy. But that’s where it stops for me. Torres might guarantee you goals, but can’t function as a winger/central attacking midfielder, and he doesn’t track back to the same extent as Rooney. Rooney is a much more complete footballer, with virtually any skill within his register. His work rate, creative sense, vision (AND fantastic passing), pace and power make him the ultimate attacking force in any team. And this is down to his contribution to the team as a whole, and not only for his awesome skills as a striker. Rooney wins this duel any time, hands down.

Those who dun wan to vote for Rooney are mostly ABUs. Rooney is fair more accomplished than Torres.

yeah i think torres is way better.i mean rooney is a good player but if have really watched both of them play you would see that torres scores more goals and also more quality goals eg the volley against blackburn in the return fixture last year.and yeah torres is higher ranked than rooney.

and yeah people are saying that rooney is a better midfielder but in strike i prefer torres to rooney.

it’s really a heart q to answer..
it depends on the team’s need..you wanna a prolific striker, a natural finisher, a high speeded high technical goal scoring machine, then it’s torres..

but if you want a smart , fast, fight forward or s.s or att. mid or winger, then its rooney you need..

but imagine a team have them both up front!!!(imazingly imazimg)

Torres=deadly striker
Rooney=Total Footballer

NUFF SAID!

Tuesday 15 September, 2009 at 12:25pm

Rooney’s work rate is immense, Torres is good but I’d prefer Rooney for the way he tracks back, never stops running and the fact that he is as hard as nails!!!

Tuesday 15 September, 2009 at 12:30pm

Otari – You should watch the volley Rooney scored against Newcastle a few years back, makes Torres’ volley look easy. You should also watch Rooneys debut for Man Utd in the Champions League where he scored a hat trick against Fenerbache. Its clear Rooney is the better player, if you disagree you are clearly bias.

this is an hard choice those two are obviously the best two strikers out there today if id have to choose one that would be rooney for his versatility but those two are up front in my dream team with nando just a litlebit infront of rooney than you would have a destructive force none could match not even the slatan iniesta messi xavi combo could touch those two

strikers are judged on how many goals they score and right now torres is winning

Has to be Rooney.

Torres can be marked out of a game ( or left stranded if Gerrard is marked out of a game – like he was by Essien in the Champions league game at Anfield )

Rooney is much harder to keep outof the game.

2nd Torres

Rooney is the better player without any ?s after all united won the league and champs league + cups for a few seasons what did torres win in his time with LFC? nothing exactly therefore his goals where most likely flowing against shabby low table teams while rooney scores in the big matches and grabs the glory + rooney for sale 2day will make x2 the money that torres could so yes once again Rooney is the better player. One more thing torres is too injury prone thus his national team dont even depend on him to win the World Cup they prefer David Villa MUFC 4EVER
