The figures quoted by UEFA and the former detectives employed by the ATP certainly suggest that the problem is growing.

In the absence of convictions it's impossible to point point to hard statistics but the anecdotal evidence form professional traders points to a rise in suspicious markets.

Online exchanges remove many of the obstacles facing heavy gamblers in the past.

Your last point is ridiculous. Here "bad publicity" is an oxymoron.

How can you assert that match fixing is worse? It might be getting worse, or it might be getting better or it might be roughly the same as it's always been. How about some investigation rather than just a stream of unresearched opinion?

There are a couple of important aspects of Le Tissier's "recent" revelations overlooked by this poor article:
1. It had no bearing on the outcome of the match.
2. It relates to an event that happened 15 years ago.

That example neither suggests that any match fixing occured, nor that it's on the increase.

And only an idiot would suggest that there was something cynical about Betfair's voiding of the Davydenko match - they've had unrelenting bad publicity as a result for the last 2 years with lazy journalists citing it as an example of match fixing on the increase.
