Hughes has been a dead man walking for weeks and a Thaskin appointment out of his depth but mentained by the owners when he should have been fired last summer.
At Blackburn he made a lot from very little but at MCFC he made very little out of a lot.
One win in ten after £200 million investment is just not good enough. A defense he brought in has leaked 9 goals in the last 3 games against with all due respect to Burnley and Sunderland apart from the Spurs disgrace.
Out of time and out of his depth , tactically inept flattered by a crew of yes men cronies.
Another factor unknown to the London based media is that a substancial numbers of fan's disliked Hughes from day one and there has been an increasingly vocal barrage of complaint against the manager over the last 6 weeks which also must have been noted by the owners.

If you force the 4 time player of the year, central defensive club captain out of the club and then your expensively assembled defence start off looking poor but then get steadily worse until eventually looking truly dreadful then I don't think as manager you can be described as blameless. We were never going to get anywhere as long as we could not carry out the basics defensively at set pieces and were conceding 3 goals almost every match. The received wisdom is that the team were progressing but as a supporter who attends every match, I can confirm that the team were actually getting progressively worse in most departments over the course of this season. Seeing Dunney play so well for Villa in the top 4 just confirms my belief that HUghes needed to be held (and take) responsibility. I wish he had succeeded but frankly, he had to go.
