World class sprinters are invariably stocky, muscular, herculean types; Bolt is gangly and practically emaciated in comparison. Convention says that in a race which takes less than 10 seconds to complete, the start is the key; Bolt barely shifts into gear until half way through.
But all that matters little when you are as phenomenally talented as the Jamaican. He had run just five competitive 100 meters when he broke the World Record for the first time, before defying belief with his triple Gold medal haul  naturally, each a World Record  during the Beijing Olympics.
By the time the World’s finest athletes next convened for the World Championships in Berlin last summer, Bolt fever had reached a new stratosphere. He didn’t disappoint.
In the Olympic win 12 months earlier Bolt was criticised by some, including the President of the IOC Jacques Roggue for his premature celebration, but for the majority it also begged the question. Just how much faster could he go? We soon found out.
