Strauss will continue as England captain, says Flower

England head coach Andrew Flower has insisted that Andrew Strauss will resume his role as captain of the one-day team and the Test squad despite Paul Collingwood having led the national team to their first Twenty20 trophy.

Flower voiced his support for Strauss following England’s victory against Australia on Sunday saying: “Andrew will come back in and there won’t be any problem whatsoever.”

Speaking after England’s T20 triumph Collingwood, 33, said: “Andrew is our one-day and Test captain, and that’s final. You can give him a lot of credit for what we’ve achieved, for the team ethos him and Andy Flower have built up.”

“This was solely my job as Twenty20 captain, to go out and win the World Cup, which is what we’ve done,” he added.

England won the Ashes series in 2009 under the captaincy of Strauss and Flower insists his position will not be questioned despite the success Collingwood has achieved over the last month.

The England Lions will play a four-day match against Bangladesh which starts today. In the absence of Strauss, England opener Alistair Cook will captain the team.
