I’m ready for the US Open, insists Andy Murray

Andy Murray says he is feeling well prepared for the final Grand Slam of the year despite losing to Mardy Fish in the quarter-final of the Cincinnati Masters on Friday.

The world No4 went into this week’s tournament after having secured his first title of 2010 at the Rogers Cup in Toronto, but the Scot eventually fell to a rejuvenated Fish 6-7 (7/9) 6-1 7-6 (7/5) in a gruelling three-hour encounter.

However, the British No1 is convinced he has put in enough hard work to pave the way for a successful run at Flushing Meadows when the US Open gets underway on 30 August.

“(I’ve) put in a lot work off the court,” said Murray on atpworldtour.com. “I’ve worked as hard as I can to get in really good shape.

“I just tried to fight as much as I could, and nearly won. I’ve had more than enough matches before the US Open, I think.”

Murray reached the final of the New York tournament in 2008 where he was beaten by Roger Federer, and was knocked out in the fourth round last year when he lost in straight sets to Croatia’s Marin Cilic.
