Bloodgate physio Brennan faces misconduct hearing

Steph Brennan, the former Harlequins physio at the centre of the Bloodgate scandal, has been called to appear before a Health Professions Council misconduct hearing.

It was felt Brennan played an integral role in the scandal involving Harlequins player Tom Williams during their Heineken Cup quarter-final against Leinster in April 2009.

Brennan, who is currently serving a two-year ban from rugby for the offence, was part of a plot by former coach Dean Richards to organise a blood replacement to bring specialist kicker Nick Evans back to the field in an attempt to win a game, though they ultimately lost 5-6.

The two-day hearing in London starts on 13 September — three weeks after Dr Wendy Chapman faces a General Medical Council hearing regarding the same incident.

Chapman was Harlequin’s matchday doctor at the game and is accused of deliberately cutting Williams’ lip to cover up the use of a blood capsule, one that was allegedly bought by Brennan.

Should either be found guilty they could face being struck off from their respective professions.
