Top seed Jelena Jankovic makes early Rogers Cup exit

Number one seed Jelena Jankovic failed to progress to the third round of the Rogers Cup after losing her opening match 7-6(3) 6-3 to qualifier Iveta Benesova on Tuesday night.
Jankovic received a first-round bye in Montreal but could not overcome the 75-ranked Benesova after the Czech secured her first ever victory over a player ranked in the world’s top ten.
Jankovic, who managed to win only 38 points on her serve during the clash, was in a reflective mood post match.
She said: “I haven’t played in a long time and I came to Montreal to set up some matches.”
Benesova took just one hour and 37 minutes to dispose of her Serbian opponent.
