Arsenal manager Arsène Wenger will serve a one-match ban and pay an £8,000 fine after accepting an inproper charge from the Football Association.

The Frenchman, 60, will miss Tuesday’s Carling Cup clash at White Hart Lane following his actions on the touchline during his side’s 1-1 draw at Sunderland on Saturday.

An FA statement read that Wenger “admitted a charge of using insulting and/or abusive language and behaviour”.

Wenger was visibly furious after Darren Bent scored the home side’s equaliser in the 95th minute despite fourth official Martin Atkinson having signalled there would be a minimum of four additional minutes.

The Gunners boss appeared to shove Atikinson after Bent scored following a goalmouth scramble.

Meanwhile, captain Cesc Fabregas is hoping to return to full fitness in time for the Gunners’ Premier League showdown with pace-setters Chelsea on 3 October after he hobbled off with a hamstring strain at the Stadium of Light.
