Notts County have confirmed Paul Ince as their new manager after the club sacked Craig Short on Sunday.

Ince, who has been out of work since he ended his second stint in charge of the MK Dons at the end of last season, has signed a deal which will see him stay at Meadow Lane until 2014

The 43-year-old former Manchester United midfielder led the Milton Keynes club to automatic promotion from League Two and the St Johnstone Paint Trophy in his first spell in charge.

Notts County is the fourth club Ince has managed following spells at Maccesfield, MK Dons and Blackburn.

“Paul has a wealth of experience as a player and a solid track record as a manager in the Football League, making him the obvious choice for me,” said Notts County chairman Ray Trew.

“There were a number of high-calibre applications for the position and it was encouraging to see just how attractive a proposition managing Notts County remains to some very prestigious names in the world of football management.

“However, when we met Paul it quickly became clear that he was the ideal candidate, he’d done his homework, had some big ideas and was ready to get stuck in straightaway.”

Ince’s first game in charge will be a home tie with Southampton on Saturday.
