Torres asks to leave Liverpool amid Chelsea interest
Liverpool striker has transfer request rejected by Merseyside club as Chelsea line up another bid

Liverpool have rejected a transfer request from striker Fernando Torres, the club revealed in a statement on Friday night.
Torres’ request comes after Chelsea had a £35m bid for the Spaniard swiftly rejected by Liverpool on Thursday. Torres had asked the Merseyside club to consider opening negotiations with the Londoners and now it seems the 26-year-old is adamant he wants a move away from the club this month.
Liverpool, however, insist they have no intention of selling the former Atletico Madrid captain and say they fully expect the striker to honour his contract.
“Fernando Torres tonight submitted a written transfer request, which has been rejected by Liverpool.†a club statement read.
“Fernando is under long-term contract and the Club expect him to honour the commitment he made to Liverpool FC and its supporters when he signed the agreement.”
Chelsea are now expected to make an improved offer for Torres, with young striker Daniel Sturridge believed to be a part of the bid which the Blues are confident will see Liverpool allow the World Cup winner to leave Anfield.
The news comes on a day when Liverpool agreed a fee of £22.8m for Ajax forward Luis Suárez, who is set to undergo a medical and agree personal terms with the Merseyside outfit in the coming days.
