Javier Zanetti wants Internazionale to make signing Udinese forward Alexis Sánchez their top priority this summer.

Inter are reportedly set to face a summer bidding war with Manchester City for the 22-year-old Chile international.

Leonardo’s side have also been linked with swoops for City captain Carlos Tévez and Belgian winger Eden Hazard, but Zanetti believes Sánchez has what it takes to succeed at a club of Inter’s stature.

“Tévez, Hazard and Sánchez are all three excellent players,” Zanetti told Gazzetta dello Sport.

“[Tévez] has always done very well. He has scored lots of goals at every club where he has played. The Belgian attacker is not as well known as the other two, but he has great statistics.

“Sánchez, however, has already shown that he has what it takes to be successful in Serie A. He has made a lot of progress.

“I know him very well as I have played against him several times. I am confident that he is ready to make the next step and can make the difference at a bigger club.”

Udinese can secure fourth place in Serie A and Champions League football next season if they can claim a point from their encounter with Milan on Sunday.

And Udinese president Giampaolo Pozzo insists Sánchez will not be sold if Udinese can book their place in Europe’s premier club competition.

“Should we qualify for the Champions League then it is our desire to maintain the potential that we already have,” Pozzo said. “In fact, we want to add to it.”

Pozzo added: “We’ve had an experience in the Champions League before and we now understand that you need to improve the squad with important players. We’ll do all that we can to take on this adventure.”
