AC Milan president Adriano Galliani has paid tribute to owner Silvio Berlusconi as the club close in on their first Serie A title in seven years.
Milan need just a point from their remaining three games to secure their 18th Scudetto ahead of derby rivals Internazionale and third-placed Napoli.
And Galliani says Berlusconi’s willingness to fund recent transfer activity, including the captures of Zlatan IbrahimoviÄ”¡ and Robinho last summer, as well as Antonio Cassano and Mark van Bommel in January, has played an important role in what looks set to be a successful title bid.
“We said right from the start that our objective was the title and we confirmed that with our January signings,” said Galliani.
“The team owes a lot to Silvio Berlusconi and the fans need to know that without his financial commitment we’d never have closed the gap to Inter.”
He added: “The Scudetto arrives thanks to Silvio Berlusconi who bought Zlatan IbrahimoviÄ”¡ and Robinho with his own money.
“The difficult moment was at Christmas when we had 11 players out, but the players who arrived in the January market helped us out.
“I think the turning point was in the derby, and now I am just thinking about the Scudetto.”
