Luis Enrique has confirmed that he has agreed a deal with Roma to become the Serie A club’s new coach.

The 41-year-old Spaniard, who recently quit as manager of Barcelona’s B team, will replace caretaker boss Vincenzo Montella at the Stadio Olimpico despite being linked with a number of other clubs.

The former Barcelona midfielder, who had been tipped to take over at Atletico Madrid, is expected to sign a two-year deal with the Italian club.

“There is a total agreement with the Giallorossi,” he told Sky Sport Italia. “All that is missing is my signature. In the next few days I will be in Rome.

“I am happy with the choice and enthusiastic about taking on the Roma project. It’s a winning project and I am an ambitious coach.”

Enrique says he will try to implement a brand of football similar to the successful free-flowing style which has helped his former employer’s Barcelona rise to the pinnacle of European football.

“I will play offensive football so many people can come to the stadium to watch it,” Enrique added. “I want to play with the best players that I will find at Roma and some I will try to bring from Barcelona.”
