Sepp Blatter brushes off Fifa quit claims as ‘nonsense’
Fifa president describes claims he intends to quit before the end of his four-year term as "ridiculous"
Sepp Blatter has rubbished claims he plans to step down as Fifa president before the end of his four-year term as “nonsense”.
Reports had suggested that 75-year-old Swiss was considering a motion to quit as president of the world governing body in two years rather than serve his full term in office.
The speculation also claimed that Blatter’s exit would pave the way for current Uefa President Michel Platini to take charge of Fifa.
But Blatter, who was re-elected unopposed for a fourth term in June, moved to quash the rumours via his Twitter account, labelling them as “ridiculous”.
“The existence of a reported “deal†between me and Michel Platini for the Fifa presidency is pure nonsense,” he said. “The suggestion that I intend to stop my four-year mandate before its end is simply ridiculous.”
