Usain Bolt promised to produce an “extraordinary” performance at the London Olympics next year after he stormed to the 200m world title on Saturday in Daegu.
The 25-year-old retained his 200m crown with a time of 19.40 seconds, a feat that goes some way towards compensating for the loss of his 100m world title after the Jamaican was disqualified from the final last week.
Speaking after his victory, Bolt said: “I made a mistake but I came back to show the world that I’m still the best.
“I’m not a legend yet. I’m on my way, but I’ve got to go to London and blow people’s minds, to go to the Olympics and do something extraordinary.”
The sprinter finished 30 seconds ahead of America’s Walter Dix in second place and a further 10 seconds ahead of France’s Christophe Lemaitre, who took bronze.
Bolt denied feeling pressure to get his start right after last week’s nightmare disqualification, but he admitted that he had been nervous ahead of the final.
“It wasn’t really big pressure,” continued Bolt. “I was a little bit nervous. I’m always nervous for the 200, I think because it’s my favourite event and I love doing it so much.
“But for me the start wasn’t a pressure because all I had to do was sit and wait. And that was it.”
