Robin van Persie has branded claims his goal celebration against Chelsea could be construed as a Nazi salute as “totally ludicrous”.

The Arsenal forward hit a superb hat-trick to add to Andre Santos’ and Theo Walcott’s second-half strikes as the Gunners sealed a dramatic victory at Stamford Bridge on Saturday.

Van Persie’s actions following his second goal led sparked allegations that the Arsenal striker had made a Nazi salute. However, the 28-year-old took to Twitter to dismiss the accusations.

“It has been brought to my attention of some ridiculous allegations concerning my celebration of one of my goals,” he wrote.

“It is totally ludicrous to suggest that my action of brushing my shoulder could be construed as anything else but a showing of joy and celebration.

“To suggest this meant anything to the contrary is insulting and absolutely absurd as nothing else came into my mind.”

Van Persie has already hit 10 league goals this season and is confident he can keep the run going to help Arsenal close the gap on their rivals at the top of the Premier League table.

“I feel I can score every time I go out on to the pitch,” he added. “For me it’s just the best feeling to have.

“It doesn’t really matter against who we play, we always create chances so that means I always have a go. Then it’s up to me to score.

“I’ll miss chances, but I’ll score them as well. To have that feeling is one of the best things in life.”
