Chelsea boss André Villas-Boas insisted he is not getting carried away with his side’s impressive start to the season after the Blues cruised to an emphatic 3-1 win over Everton on Saturday.

Goals from Daniel Sturridge, John Terry and Ramires saw Villas-Boas maintain his perfect home record with Chelsea and also meant the west Londoners have now netted 12 times in their last three league games.

But the Portuguese manager said: “We have not done anything special. We just have to continue to win until we find a position of comfort at the top of the league.

“It is never easy coming back after an international break but it was important to get three points, particularly on a day when two title contenders played against each other.”

Earlier on Saturday, Manchester United left Anfield with a point and the Chelsea boss believes Sir Alex Ferguson will be happy with the draw, despite the Blues closing the gap on the defending champions to one point.

“Eventually Man United got an important point at Anfield but at least it allows us to get closer to second position at the moment,” said Villas-Boas.

“I don’t see it so much as Man United dropping points, I see it more as Liverpool dropping points, a point at Anfield is something that any manager takes. It still gives us the opportunity to get closer to them but of course we still need to go to Anfield.”

Midfielder Ramires picked up a knock against the Toffees and Villas-Boas admitted he was unsure over whether the Brazilian would feature in their midweek Champions League encounter with Genk.

“It is uncertain whether Ramires will be fit for those games until he has a scan on his knee,” Villas-Boas exaplained.

“We need three points at Queens Park Rangers which is going to be difficult and we need to see what happens in the game between Manchester United and Manchester City on the same day.”
