Cristiano Ronaldo is hopeful he can beat the Spanish league record for scoring the most goals in a season again this term.

The Real Madrid forward, who has already netted seven La Liga goals in six games this season, is aiming to surpass his mark of 40 strikes that landed him the Pichichi award for 2010-11.

“In football nothing is impossible and every record can be broken,” Ronaldo told Spanish sports daily Marca. “I hope to surpass the previous record, but I want to thank my team-mates for making it possible for me to win the trophy.

“We will see what happens in the future, you never know what may happen, but I could beat the record.”

Ronaldo’s goal-scoring record since arriving at the Bernabéu in 2009 is nothing short of remarkable – he has netted 73 La Liga goals in 69 appearances for Los Blancos.

But the world’s most expensive footballer, who is the only player to score 40 goals or more in a La Liga season, believes that his assists tally is an equally important statistic.

“I like helping my team-mates score, it is also part of my job. They pass to me and I pass to them. I always do my best for the team so we can win.”

Barcelona star Lionel Messi is currently leading the way in the races for this season’s Pichichi crown after having netted eight times in his side’s first six games.
