Kenny Dalglish believes Liverpool were unfortunate not to beat Manchester City after some fine saves from Joe Hart prevented the Reds from snatching a late winner at Anfield.
The Premier League leaders had taken a first-half lead through Vincent Kompany from a David Silva corner but were pegged back less than two minutes later when Charlie Adam’s long-range effort was deflected in off Joleon Lescott.
City substitute Mario Balotelli was then sent off for two bookable offences in the second half before Hart produced a string of impressive saves to deny Luis Suárez and Andy Carroll late on.
And Dalglish felt the Reds were unfortunate not to sneak a later winner.
“I don’t think you could have asked for much more in terms of effort and commitment from the players,” he said. “I think they were fantastic.
“They started the game better than us and scored the goal just as we were starting to get a foot in the game.
“We equalised quite quickly with a wee bit of good fortune but I think that’s when the good luck for us ran out.
“At the end of the day with have come up against a goalkeeper who has done what another three or four have done here – had a fantastic game.
“It is up to us. We will keep getting in there and eventually we will come up against a goalkeeper who will not be saving everything that is hit against him.”
