Liverpool manager Kenny Dalglish has hailed Sir Alex Ferguson’s “unbelievable” achievements as the Manchester United boss prepares to celebrate 25 years in charge of the Red Devils.

Dalglish watched Ferguson’s side surpass Liverpool’s record tally of 18 league titles last season – but the Reds boss put on-pitch rivalries aside to congratulate the 69-year-old on his remarkable spell at Old Trafford.

“He’s been fantastic for Manchester United,” Dalglish told a news conference. “I think he’s even surpassed the legend that was Sir Matt Busby in the achievements and successes he’s had.

“To be anywhere for 25 years is unbelievable, and to have had the success he’s had is great testimony to himself and the football club.

“When you remember where the football club was when he came in, it’s a fantastic achievement where he’s taken them to.”

And Dalglish feels it is unlikely that any manager will ever enjoy as much success as Ferguson at Old Trafford in years to come.

He added: “I don’t think you’d have seen Fergie lasting 25 years until Mark Robins scored a header at Notts Forest, so who knows? Whether anyone does it in the future is irrelevant – nobody can take away his achievement.”
