Daniel Agger has called on his Liverpool team-mates to raise their game if they want to achieve their goal of qualifying for the Champions League next season.

The 26-year-old centre-half slammed the Reds’ performance against Swansea City on Saturday after Kenny Dalglish’s side slumped to their third successive draw at Anfield.

“Sometimes we looked like headless chickens running around after the ball,” Agger said. “It is far from good enough. Everyone was angry and disappointed – some more than others – but that is the way it is.”

Liverpool struggled to find a way past Swansea, with Andy Carroll missing the best chance of the match after five minutes.

In the second half Swans goalkeeper Michel Vorm pulled of a string of top saves to deny the home side a precious victory.

And the Denmark international is worried that unless the Reds improve their league form at home, they will miss out on a fourth-place finish, with Newcastle United and Tottenham Hotspur both currently ahead of the Anfield outfit in the table.

“If we play like this, we won’t do it [qualify for the Champions League],” he continued. “We have got to move up a level or two. I won’t say it is not possible, because it is, but it is up to the players.

“We are the only ones who can make a difference. We definitely have to do a lot better.”
