Members of the public are being offered the chance to run 100m at the London 2012 Olympic Stadium in the build-up to next year’s Games.

Representatives from over 150 UK charity partners will come together to recognise the achievements of people taking part in the Gold Challenge Parade, which will be watched by 20,000 spectators, making it a key event in organising committee Locog’s venue testing programme.

Organisers are hoping 100,000 people and organisations will register their interest to be involved with those that have raised have raised the most money by next February invited to join the event on 1 April. Some places will also be made available by ballot.

Gold Challenge, which is part of the Places People Play London 2012 legacy programme, is seeking to raise £20m for charity by the end of 2012 by encouraging people to get involved in Olympic and Paralympic sport.

“We are delighted that Gold Challenge is hosting this event and giving Locog the opportunity to test the Olympic Stadium ahead of July 2012,” said London 2012 chairman Seb Coe.

“It is a fitting way to say thank you to those who have been inspired by the Games to get active and also raise money for charity.”
