In today’s European special, find out why the prolific Edinson Cavani is set to net against Chelsea on Tuesday, with the Serie A Side likely to take a first-leg lead back to Stamford Bridge.
And read why our man-in-the-know is predicting an open game when Manchester City host Porto in the Europa League, with Manchester United set to ease to a comfortable aggregate win over Ajax.
The Uruguayan has been in excellent form this season with 19 goals in 28 matches, including two strikes away at Fiorentina on Friday night. Cavani has already put one English club to the sword, scoring three times against Manchester City in the group stages – and he has a total of four goals in six matches in the Champions League this season. He’ll also be on penalty duty if required, which all makes 13/10 excellent value for Napoli’s talisman to net at any time on Tuesday night.
Napoli are unbeaten at home in the Champions League this term, with two wins and a draw at Stadio San Paolo in the group stages. Chelsea, on the other hand, have struggled away from Stamford Bridge, failing to win any of their away group games, including a loss at Bayer Leverkusen. The Italian side will be desperate to travel back to Stamford Bridge with an advantage in the return leg, so Napoli to win at 13/10 is definitely the value bet in this one.
Expect an attacking game on Wednesday night when Porto visit the Etihad Stadium. City’s European games have generally been action packed this season, with both sides scoring in two out of the three matches played at Eastlands. City are leading Porto 2-1 on aggregate after an open first leg in Portugal last week – and the Tipster is predicting more of the same, with both teams to score at 5/6 too good to turn down.
Ajax are on a terrible run of form with only one win in their last seven games. This tie is all but settled thanks to United’s 2-0 victory at the Amsterdam Arena, and the Red Devils to win to nil looks excellent value. Ajax have only scored in one of their three away matches in Europe, and struggled to create chances as United gained a foothold in the first leg. So Sir Alex Ferguson’s side to win to nil looks a value bet at 11/10.
Chelsea took the lead in all six of their Group E games but Villas-Boas’ side only managed to hold on and claim victory in three of these ties. The Blues are woefully short of confidence after securing just one win in their last six games, and scoring once in their last three away games. Meanwhile, Napoli have netted 23 goals in 12 home games in Serie A this season. So, this edition’s outrageous long-range effort is for Napoli to come from behind and beat Chelsea at a more-than-tempting 7/1.
