Our man-in-the-know is predicting plenty of goals at Stamford Bridge on Wednesday – but expects the 217th Merseyside derby to be a low scoring affair, with plenty of cards in what should be a feisty game.

If Chelsea have any hope of qualifying for the quarter-finals, a lot will depend on Didier Drogba’s performance. The Ivory Coast striker netted at the weekend against Stoke City – and he has eight goals in all competitions this season. The 34-year-old is also likely to be on penalty duty on Wednesday night too, so 11/10 for Drogba to score at any time looks like excellent value in this one.
This one’s a banker. Chelsea’s three home games in the Champions League group stages produced 10 goals. With the Blues needing to attack to overturn a 3-1 deficit from the first leg and Napoli’s last two Serie A matches producing 12 goals, over 2.5 goals at Stamford Bridge is a more-than-solid shout at 13/20.
Liverpool’s home games have generally been tight affairs this season, with 10 of their matches at Anfield finishing with under 2.5 goals. Meanwhile, Everton’s last seven away games have finished with under 2.5 goals. The Tipster expects the 217th Merseyside derby to be a closely-contested affair and under 2.5 goals is a value bet at 7/10.
Phil Dowd has taken charge of three derbies already this season. The 49-year-old handed out seven yellow cards in Manchester United’s 3-2 victory over Manchester City in the Community Shield, while in West Brom’s 2-1 victory against Aston Villa, and Queens Park Rangers’ 1-0 loss to Fulham, he dished out five cautions and a red card in both games. Therefore, over 5.5 cards in the Merseyside derby looks a good bet at 8/11.
David Moyes’ side are unbeaten in nine games and the Toffees won’t have a better chance of securing a rare win at Anfield than Tuesday night. Liverpool have lost three of their last four league games, and they are struggling for goals. The Reds have lost their last three top-flight games by a one-goal margin, too – so the Tipster’s audacious long-range effort for this edition is for Everton to beat Liverpool without conceding at a very tempting 7/1.
