Roberto Di Matteo is convinced his Chelsea side can overturn a 3-1 first-leg deficit and reach the Champions League quarter-finals at the expense of Napoli on Wednesday.

The Italian coach has taken temporary charge of first-team affairs at Stamford Bridge following Andr√© Villas-Boas’s sacking – and the Blues have notched up two wins from two games since the Portuguese’s dismissal.

And Di Matteo is hoping those two victories will give the west Londoners a much-needed injection of belief ahead of their Champions League showdown.

“We’re looking forward to this game,” Di Matteo told a news conference on Tuesday. “I am excited, we have a big job on our hands tomorrow night but the squad is in good shape and everybody is available so we are looking confident for tomorrow night.

“We want to finish the season in the best way and reach our objectives – we started well and the more you win the more confidence you can grow, which is positive in light of the match tomorrow.

“We need a great performance and we need a little bit of luck as well. In a cup competition you need to deserve the little bit of luck that makes you go through.

“Personally it would be a proud moment, but more than anything we just want to do well for the club and our supporters and want the team to show a passionate performance and try to turn this tie around.”
