André Villas-Boas has congratulated his former side Chelsea after they lifted the Champions League trophy for the first time on Saturday.

The 34-year-old Portuguese coach, who was sacked as Chelsea boss in March with the Blues in disarray following a 3-1 defeat at Napoli and a 1-0 loss at West Bromwich, has been linked with the vacant Liverpool post in recent days.

But the former Porto boss has said he will take his time when choosing his next “project” and complimented the Blues on their European triumph under the stewardship of Roberto Di Matteo after they sealed a penalty shootout victory over Bayern Munich in the final.

”The biggest award is to win the Champions League. Congratulations to Di Matteo and the players,” he said. “I’m still choosing the right project and that decision will take the necessary time.”
