Radamel Falcao could not hide his delight after his stunning first-half brace sent Atlético Madrid on their way to Europa League glory against Athletic Bilbao in the final in Bucharest on Wednesday.

The Colombia striker, who scored the winner for former club Porto in last year’s final, gave Madrid the lead with a curling effort in the eighth minute and doubled his side’s advantage with a brilliant turn and finish 10 minutes before the break.

Diego added gloss to the victory with a cool finish in the 86th minute to hand Madrid a 3-0 win and their second Europa League title in three seasons.

“I can’t do justice to just how happy I am,” said Falcao, who netted 12 goals in this season’s Europa League, after the game.

“I owe it to the team, they helped me a lot. I think the pressure we managed to put on them when they were on the ball was key, in every area of the pitch.

“It’s a dream come true. I’m just speechless, unable to describe all this: to have won the Europa League with two different clubs, and above all to be the top scorer two years running.”
