Cesc Fàbregas believes Chelsea had their share of “luck” on their way to Champions League glory but insists the Blues deserved their European crown.

The former Arsenal captain was on the losing side in the semi-final clash between Barcelona and Chelsea, when Roberto Di Matteo’s men caused an upset and knocked out the holders over two legs.

Fàbregas, speaking in the build-up to Friday’s Copa Del Rey final against Athletic Bilbao, says the Blues had a slice of luck that all teams need if they are to be successful and congratulated the Londoners on their success.

“People say they did not deserve it but when it’s your year, it’s your year,” Fabregas told the Independent. “It’s like when Andres Iniesta scored the goal against Chelsea in the last seconds at Stamford Bridge the year we won the treble.

“Chelsea had some luck but all the teams that win it need that, and you can only congratulate them.

“It says a lot for the Premier League that they have five or six teams that can beat anyone in the world, and next year it will be even worse. It will be tough for the rest.”
