Jamie Mackie described extending his contract at Queens Park Rangers as a “fantastic” opportunity after the striker’s vital contribution to the Londoners’ top-flight survival.

The 26-year-old was rewarded for another fine season at the Loftus Road outfit with a one-year extension to his current deal which will see the former Exeter City forward stay at QPR until 2015.

The Scotland international, who moved to the Hoops from Plymouth Argyle in May 2010, scored seven goals this season, including QPR’s winner in a 3-2 victory over Liverpool and a header against Premier League champions Manchester City on Sunday.

“To be given the opportunity to extend my contract is fantastic for me,” Mackie told QPR’s website.

“It’s really exciting times for the club. Now we’ve stayed up, I think next season could be a really big one for QPR. To be a part of the long-term future of the club is an aim of mine and I’m really happy.

“Hopefully the manager can add even more quality to the squad in the summer to supplement what we’ve already got.

“With the new training ground too and the passion of the owners for the club, it’s an amazing time for the football club.

“From day one, the fans have brilliant with me – especially when I broke my leg. They carried on supporting me all the way through that.

“It meant a lot to me. Hopefully my performances since have gone a little way to paying them back for the support that they showed me.”
