World 10k silver medallist Mo Farah will kick off his build-up for London 2012 when he defends his Bupa London 10,000 title this weekend.

Farah, world 5,000m champion in 2011, is chasing a fourth consecutive victory and will be up against fellow Brit Scott Overall, starting his own preparation for the Marathon at the Games, on Sunday, May 27.

The 29-year-old is looking to quickly establish form and fitness – as well as beating his own course record of 27 minutes, 44 seconds – in his first outdoor performance of the season, with much of the course expected to be used in the summer.

Overall will head up a strong British contingent at the event, which incorporates the UK National 10km Road Championships and part of the runbritain Grand Prix series.

The 29-year-old former shoe salesman, who qualified for Team GB’s men’s Marathon team on his debut run in Berlin in December, is fine form, with a half-Marathon win at Silverstone in March and is looking to better his 10K personal best of 28 minutes, 49 seconds.

Team GB women’s Marathon runner Mara Yamauchi takes top billing in the women’s race to prepare for her bid for an Olympic marathon medal.

Yamauchi has huge experience of the course, including a second place finish in the 2009 London marathon behind Germany’s Irina Mikitenko, becoming the second quickest Briton of all time.

Scot Freya Murray will be up against the veteran Yamauchi after an impressive debut at the Virgin London Marathon in April, finishing as the second British woman home behind Claire Hallissey, in 2 hours, 28 minutes, 10 seconds.

There will be around 10,000 fun runners, celebrities and charity fundraisers looking for lifetime bests on roads part of the Olympic course.
