Mark Hughes hands QPR’s injury-plagued Kieron Dyer a new deal
Former Newcastle United midfielder Kieron Dyer is handed a contract extension by Queens Park Rangers boss Mark Hughes
Kieron Dyer has agreed a new one-year contract at Queens Park Rangers as Hoops manager Mark Hughes moves to rebuild his squad for a more successful Premier League campaign next season.
The 33-year-old has made just one appearance for QPR since moving to Loftus Road from West Ham United at the end of the 2011 campaign – against Bolton Wanderers on the opening day of last season.
However, the England international was carried off on a stretcher after just three minutes with a foot injury, and subsequent ligament damage to his foot ruled the former Newcastle United star out for the remainder of the season.
The Hoops also confirmed that defender Clint Hill, Akos Buzsaky and former Tottenham Hotspur goalkeeper Radek Cerny have all been offered new contracts.
But Wales international Danny Gabbidon and defender Peter Ramage are among the bigger names to be released by Hughes, with Danny Shittu, Fitz Hall, Gary Borrowdale, Lee Cook, Rowan Vine and Patrick Agyemang also leaving the club when their contracts expire at the end of June.
A club statement read: “The club would like to thank each and every player for their contribution to QPR during their time here and wish them every success for the future.
“The club will be making further announcements with regards to player movement in due course.”
Last week, Hughes handed striker Jamie Mackie, who scored against Liverpool and Manchester City as QPR managed to avoid relegation to the Championship, a contract extension until the summer of 2015.
