Mark Hughes will be on a revenge mission when Queens Park Rangers face Manchester City this weekend but he should be careful that his ego doesn’t get in the way of the Hoops’ top priority – staying up.
Hughes was harshly treated when given the boot at City two-and-a-half years ago but his personal vendetta could blow up spectacularly in his face if he isn’t careful.
No one person is bigger than a football club, or so they say, and that shouldn’t be forgotten here – Hughes must not get so hyped up on revenge that he fails to deliver the job in hand.
The equation is simple from a City point of view – win and they win the title – while if Bolton lose to Stoke City the result for QPR will prove irrelevant.
But Stoke haven’t looked good of late, QPR beat them last time out, so realistically Rangers need at least a point – their goal difference far superior – to stay up.
On one hand revenge can be sweet but it can also be sour if it doesn’t go to plan and, as much as Hughes wants to put the boot into his former employers, they will probably feel the same way.
France boss Laurent Blanc is set to name his squad for Euro 2012 and there is one man that simply must go to Poland and Ukraine – Hatem Ben Arfa.
The Newcastle forward has been on fire over the last few months, finally rediscovering his top form after his horrific leg break at the start of last season.
Les Bleus should already have enough to see us off but with Ben Arfa on the opposite flank to Franck Ribéry, it has the potential to be a massacre.
And with the likes of Yohan Cabaye and Samir Nasri pulling the strings in midfield, with the reportedly Arsenal-bound Yann M’Vila sweeping up behind them, France have the potential to go far in this tournament.
Ben Arfa was touted for huge things before his injury hell prevented him from making an appearance under Blanc and left him stalled on eight caps, but France’s manager will surely be missing a trick if he doesn’t hand him at least a few more this summer.
