Joleon Lescott admits Roy Hodgson is better at communicating with the England team than his predecessor Fabio Capello.

Capello grasp of the English language was often called into question during the Italian’s tenure in charge of the national side – and Manchester City defender Lescott concedes it is easier for Hodgson to “get his points across” to the players.

“The biggest difference would be the communication side of things,” Lescott said. “Obviously his first language is English so it is easier for him to communicate and he gets his point across pretty well.”

Lescott, who was named in Hodgson’s 23-man squad for this summer’s European championship in Poland and Ukraine last week, went on to admit that Rio Ferdinand’s surprise omission was a “shame”.

“He is a great player and has been a great one for England,” Lescott continued.

“He is probably one of the players I looked at most growing up. It’s a shame he is not in the squad but it was the manager’s decision.”

Hodgson will oversee his first game in charge of the national side when England take on Norway on Saturday in a Euro 2012 warm-up match.
