Steve Kean set to discuss Blackburn future with owners

Blackburn boss Steve Kean expects to sit down with the club's owners and come up with a strategy to see their immediate return to top flight

Steve Kean wants to meet with the Blackburn Rovers owners to discuss plans to build a squad which can help the Ewood Park outfit make an immediate return to the Premier League.

Blackburn were relegated to the Championship on Monday night after a 1-0 defeat by Wigan Athletic, leaving Kean’s side six points behind 17th-placed Queens Park Rangers.

Kean, who replaced Sam Allardyce as Blackburn boss in December 2010, wants to keep hold of his best players in order to give the club the best possible chance of returning to the top flight.

“I’ll sit down with the owners and discuss a plan on how to assemble a squad that can bring us back up straight away because certainly we’ve lost a lot of experience over the last six months in particular,” said Kean.

“We need to try and keep the majority of our squad together and [we will try to] add one or two experienced players who can help us build a squad, so for the first game of next season we’re trying to bounce back and make sure we’re in the division we should be in.”

The 44-year-old refused to criticise his Blackburn side for a lacklustre first-half performance against Wigan, instead praising their effort after the interval to find a winner.

“It was disappointing we couldn’t have taken it to the last game,” he added.

“We had to deal with three injuries on the night [against Wigan] but we were still making a good go of it.

“I felt in the second half I couldn’t fault the player’s effort. They were absolutely fantastic and gave everything.”
