Robin van Persie would not quit Arsenal to join Manchester City or any other Premier League club this summer, according to the Dutch striker’s father.

The 28-year-old is yet to sign a new deal at The Emirates with his contract set to expire in 2013 after he scored 30 goals in 38 appearances for the Gunners last season.

Van Persie, who won the PFA Player of the Year award in April, is reportedly attracting interest from the likes of City and Serie A holders Juventus.

Arsenal held talks with Van Persie last month with both parties yet to come to an agreement – but chief executive Ivan Gazidis insisted there was no rush to make an announcement on the situation.

And the striker’s father, Bob van Persie, insists his son would not leave Arsène Wenger’s side to join another club in the English top flight, and also appeared to rule out a move to Barcelona or Real Madrid.

“He’d never go to Manchester City as it’s impossible he would play for another Premier League side that wasn’t Arsenal,” Bob van Persie was quoted as saying by El Mundo Deportivo.

“It would make no sense to go to Barcelona when they’ve already got Leo Messi.

“Real Madrid would be a good option, but they are not so much a team as a collection of star names, so he wouldn’t really fit in there either.”

Van Persie joined Arsenal from Feyenoord in 2004 and has scored 132 goals in 278 appearances for the London club.
