Dave Whelan has confirmed Wigan Athletic have rejected a £4m bid from Chelsea for Victor Moses.

The 21-year-old scored six goals in 37 Premier League appearances as he helped Wigan avoid relegation last season.

Latics chairman Whelan laughed off Chelsea’s bid, saying the Londoners were “taking the Mickey” and prompting a mixed reaction from supporters of both clubs on Twitter.

Chelsea supporter Lewis Scott ‏(@Lewww992) wants to know why the move for Porto’s Hulk appears to have been put on hold: “Why are @chelseafc trying to get Victor Moses! he’s nothing special. What happened to getting Hulk? #CFC”

Chelsea’s potential line-up isn’t very conventional, according to Bantersaurus Rex ‏(@HollisterSteve): “Chelsea tried to sign Victor Moses, why? Moses and Torres up front just sounds the most random combination in the world!”

Wigan supporter Carl Mortimer ‏(@CarlosDaBoss83) thinks Chelsea should be offering more: “If Chelsea want Victor Moses I would like them to pay more than £4m as Crystal Palace have a sell on fee of about 25%.”

While, Tee’Why (‏@TweetTeewhyO) thinks that if Chelsea paid £17m for Romelu Lukaku, then £4m for Moses would be “ridiculous”: “Bought Lukaku for more than £17m and now offering £4 for Victor Moses? Ridiculous!”

But Blues supporter Sam Chelsea ‏(@donpatoj) thinks £4m is too much: “Taking the mickey! Victor Moses is a good player but £4m with just 12months remaining on his contract, I think Dave whelan is joking…”

Billy Jones (‏@bilaljones4) believes Moses has a lot of potential: “I’ve always rated Victor Moses, he’s an exciting prospect that can go past anybody in the world! Just needs to pass a bit more.”

James Padiachy ‏(@James_Padiachy) is flummoxed by Chelsea’s move for Moses: “Why on earth do Chelsea want Victor Moses??”

And DanDaMan ‏(@dwattdan) puts the bid into context: “Chelsea trying to buy Victor Moses is like Liverpool trying to buy Stewart Downing. Poor business, overrated!”

But Chelsea fan Ryan Dennison ‏(@BIG_D_86) can see potential for Moses to be a success at Stamford Bridge – from the bench: “I personally wouldn’t mind if we sign Victor Moses good player but the question is would he be happy being back up and benched most games?”

However, Steve Sharman ‏(@steve_sharman12) fails to see where the Wigan forward would slot in to Roberto Di Matteo’s side: “Why do Chelsea feel the need to get Victor Moses? Yes he’s a good player but they already have better players in that position #cfc #wafc”

But Ricci Gallagher ‏(@RicciGallagher) reckons he has sussed out the motives behind Chelsea’s move: “The Victor Moses to Chelsea thing isn’t all that weird. Might be looking to get rid of Daniel Sturridge, obvious Di Matteo doesn’t get on with him.”
