Euro 2012: I’d take one of first penalties, says Man City’s Joe Hart
England goalkeeper Joe Hart insists he would have no problem with taking a penalty should Italy clash come down to a shootout

Joe Hart insists he would have no qualms about taking one of England’s first five penalties should Sunday’s quarter-final showdown with Italy come down to a shootout.
England have been knocked out five times on penalties in major tournaments over the last 22 years and Roy Hodgson admits spot-kick practice has now become an important part of his side’s training regime in Poland and Ukraine.
And Hart insists he would be happy to step up if Hodgson were to give him the nod in a shootout.
“If they let me [take one of the first five] I’ll put my name forward, 100 per cent,” he told a news conference. “Hopefully it won’t come to that. Penalties are a lottery but I’d back myself if it came to that.
“It’s the kind of situation where [as a goalkeeper] you have the chance to do your thing for the team. If it does require penalties to go through then that’s the route we’re going to take.” ![]()
