Samir Nasri revealed his delight in outwitting Manchester City team-mate Joe Hart after the midfielder scored France’s equaliser in their 1-1 draw with England in Group D on Monday.

Roy Hodgson’s side took the lead mid-way through the first half when Steven Gerrard’s whipped free-kick was headed past Hugo Lloris by Joleon Lescott.

However, Nasri levelled for Les Bleus in the 39th minute, with Franck Ribéry teeing up the City midfielder, who whipped a venomous low shot past Joe Hart’s near post.

The 24-year-old was particularly pleased to beat Hart, who Nasri believes was wrong-footed by the French playmaker’s placement of his successful strike.

“When Franck Ribéry gave me the ball, the England defence was really low [sitting back],” said Nasri.

“I decided to take a shot but Joe Hart knows me from Manchester City and knows that in that situation, I normally open my foot.

“This time I closed it a little bit so I am happy with how it worked out.”

Laurent Blanc’s men are now 22 games unbeaten after the former Manchester United defender replaced Raymond Domenech as France boss in 2010.

Nasri heaped praise on France’s 46-year-old manager and believes their performance against England highlights the improvement made since a disastrous World Cup in South Africa.

“We are making a lot of progress,” he said. “We have come from nothing in 2010, when we made a lot of mistakes.

“Today we are more mature. We can do something with this group.”
