Everton boss David Moyes: No contact from Tottenham

David Moyes has once again insisted he has had no contact from Tottenham Hotspur, with the Everton manager focused on next season at Goodison Park.

The 49-year-old immediately emerged as a lead candidate to replace Harry Redknapp at White Hart Lane after the former Portsmouth manager was sacked by Spurs in June.

“All I can say is there has been no contact from Spurs,” Moyes told TalkSPORT. “There has been no contact and that is how it is. I’m the Everton manager.

“I’m planning, I’m out here [in Poland at Euro 2012] having a look at players, talking to my own players, meeting them, and trying to get on with being manager of Everton. Behind the scenes me and Bill [Kenwright, the Everton chairman] are trying to get things moving along.”

Moyes also moved to placate Everton supporters calling for some big-name signings, insisting that his focus is on guiding the Merseyside outfit back into Europe.

“At Everton we could make a difference with not too much money,” he added.

“I don’t think at Everton we necessarily need £40m or £50m to spend. Give us a bit of money, we will try and make it work, we will turn it around and keep it going.

“What the Everton supporters want is that opportunity to think there is a bit of hope, there is a chance that this is going to get better and keep improving.

“We’ve now been out of Europe at Everton for the last two or three years. A club like Everton need European football.

“If it was Europa League we’d take it – the Champions League would be like back to winning the league again.”
