Gareth Bale is already looking forward to Tottenham Hotspur’s testing opening game of the Premier League season at Newcastle United on 18 August.

The 22-year-old was part of Harry Redknapp’s side that finished in fourth place last season but missed out on a Champions League spot after Chelsea’s dramatic victory against Bayern Munich in the final.

Spurs chairman Daniel Levy has yet to appoint Redknapp’s successor at White Hart Lane following the 65-year-old’s sacking last week.

But Bale is eagerly anticipating the return of the English top flight after the fixture list was revealed earlier this week.

“It will be difficult, especially away from home, but it’s a good early test for us,” Bale told Tottenham’s website. “It’s important to get off to a good start.

“Newcastle had a fine season. No-one really expected them to be right up there and maintain it throughout the season.

“They’ve some great players and it will be a case of keeping those players quiet and trying to impose our game plan.”

“They all worked hard, they worked together and that counts a lot in football.”

Bale has scored 29 goals in 160 appearances for Tottenham since joining the north London club from Southampton in 2007. He won the PFA Player of the Year award in 2011.
