The Tipster can’t wait for what should be an enthralling clash between Germany and Greece on Friday – and our resident betting expert is backing Mario Gómez to score the opening goal in the second quarter-final.

Our man-in-the-know is tipping a closely fought encounter, with Greece set to frustrate the three-time winners but Germany to finally make breakthrough after half-time, and to win by a single goal in a game which should end with under 2.5 goals.

Gómez to score first in Germany against Greece – 3/1

Gómez scored 26 goals for Bayern Munich last season – his second highest return in the Bundesliga to date – while the striker also netted 12 en route to the Champions League final. The 26-year-old has continued his form at Euro 2012, scoring against Portugal before beating Netherlands goalkeeper Maarten Stekelenburg twice. So, The Tipster’s opening bet for this edition is for Gómez to score first for the third time at Euro 2012 when Germany take on Greece at solid odds of 3/1.

Under 2.5 goals between Greece and Germany – 9/10

Greece, while failing to hit the defensive heights of their successful Euro 2004 campaign, have still frustrated at this tournament. In their opening game, they endured a 1-1 draw with Poland, while in the decisive Group A clash, Giorgos Karagounis’ strike was all that separated his side from Russia. The Tipster is predicting another edgy encounter on Friday night, and under 2.5 goals between Greece and Germany is a good bet at 9/10.
Bet365 odds

Germany to beat Greece by one goal – 5/2

Germany lead the head-to-head, winning five of their previous eight encounters, including 2-0 and 4-2 victories in the qualifiers for the 2002 World Cup. But encouragingly for the Greeks, their last three meetings with Friday night’s opposition at major tournaments have ended in draws. Joachim Löw’s side, however, should have enough to beat Greece, but it will be by a narrow margin – and the Tipster is backing that margin to be a single goal at odds of 5/2.
Bet365 odds

Draw at half-time/Germany to winning at full-time – 5/2

In two of their three Group B games, Germany were drawing at half-time before the going on to claim maximum points after the interval. Greece will look to frustrate Löw’s side for as long as possible, but the 2008 runners-up should have too much quality to be denied a place in the last four. This quarter-final to be all square at half-time but Germany to seal a win in the second half is therefore an excellent bet at 5/2.
Bet365 odds

The long shot: Gómez to score first and Germany to win 1-0 – 5/1

Gómez scored the winner in Germany’s opening 1-0 victory over Portugal in Group A, while it was his two goals which sealed victory over the Netherlands. The striker scored in 25 games for Bayern Munich last season, with his strike the first in 16 of these. Therefore, the Tipster’s long shot for this edition is for the prolific forward to score the opening, and winning, strike for Germany against Greece at 5/1.
