Jan Vertonghen ‘very close’ to joining Tottenham, says agent
Jan Vertonghen's agent insists the Belgian defender will still be joining Tottenham Hotspur this summer, with a deal imminent

Jan Vertonghen is “very close” to joining Tottenham Hotspur this summer despite Harry Redknapp’s sacking, according to the player’s agent.
Spurs opened talks with Ajax over a possible transfer for the Belgium international last month, with Redknapp a keen admirer of the centre-half.
Redknapp’s surprise sacking by Spurs last week had cast doubt over the move – but the the 25-year-old defender’s agent Mustapha Nakhli insists the transfer is still on, with the clubs currently in negotiation over a price.
“Nothing has changed at all. He is coming to Tottenham for the club and not for the manager,” Nakhli said. “Managers come and go. Of course Jan is sorry that Harry Redknapp is no longer there but he is going for the club.
“We have a good relationship with Daniel Levy. He wants the deal to happen and there is a good atmosphere [between us].
“I don’t know when it will happen but the deal is close, very close.”
Vertonghen revealed his desire to move to the Premier League on the eve of England’s 1-0 victory over Belgium at Wembley.
“Yes [I want to move to England]. I know where I want to go and I think it is clear to everybody,” Vertonghen said.
“I am a big fan of the Premier League. It is almost the only competition I watch on TV and for me it is the best competition in the world.” ![]()
