Luis Suárez is hoping new Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers can bring a style of play to Anfield similar to the one he implemented at Swansea.

Rodgers was named as Kenny Dalglish’s successor last week on a three-year deal – and the Uruguay striker admits he was left impressed with Swansea’s style of play in the top flight last season.

Speaking after Liverpool’s 1-0 defeat at the Liberty Stadium on the final day of the season, Suárez told Marca: “I have to say that Swansea City was a pleasant surprise.

“They always tried to play football with short pass combinations and they didn’t care what zone of the field they were at, or even if it was the goalkeeper or the striker who had the ball.”

Rodgers has already received the backing of Liverpool captain Steven Gerrard, who revealed his excitement at the prospect of working with the new Reds manager after Euro 2012.

“Brendan Rodgers was the first choice,” said Gerrard. “I was in the loop the whole way through.

“I am excited and I am really looking forward to working with Brendan. I am looking forward to meeting him in person, but the focus now is Euro 2012.”
